David Attenborough: Bird Sounds from the Lyre Bird

It doesn’t matter where you look in the world around us, there is going to be something amazing that will catch your eye. In many cases, it is something that exists in nature and, although it has been there for millennia, it is new to us when we first discovered it. One of the things that have fascinated many people in nature is the ability of certain birds to imitate sounds they hear around them.

A number of different birds become great imitators, but the lyre bird is perhaps the greatest of them all. There are actually two different species of this particular Australian bird, but they are perhaps most notable for their ability to mimic both natural and artificial noises that occur in the environment. That is what you will see in this video and it is difficult to watch it and not marvel at what the bird is able to do.

When most of us think about a bird imitating noises, we think about a parrot that is mimicking the people who live in the same house. As you will see, however, this unique bird is able to imitate almost anything imaginable. It is well worth watching twice.
