Clover the Parrot Knows more than 350 Words

The ability to speak and communicate with others is something that is important for all of us in life. We learn it from a very young age and, in fact, it is quite amazing when you stop to think about how we master a difficult human language in only a few years. Most humans have a vocabulary of anywhere from 20,000 to 35,000 words, with even a four-year-old child knowing about 5000 words.

Not only are humans able to master speech but there are plenty of species of birds who can also speak as well. They may not be communicating in a pure sense, but listening to them say the words can certainly be fascinating and can keep us interested. Some parrots may know a few words with others knowing dozens of words, but Clover is a record setter, and she even won an award.

Clover is a Congo African gray parrot and she has an amazing vocabulary of about 350 words. She even had a winning entry in the professional division of the Kaytee International “Best Talking Parrot” competition in 2011. It’s difficult to watch this video and not think about how amazing this wonderful bird really is.
